Presbytery of Western North Carolina Guatemala Partnership

Dear Pastors and Church Mission contact with a Sister Church in Guatemala:
The Church to Church committee of the PWNC Guatemala Partnership is reaching out to determine if there is any interest in one or two members from your congregation participating in a Delegation trip to Guatemala in the upcoming year.
Since the partnership began over twenty years ago, there has been a lot of hard work, time, effort and dedication on both sides to make the partnership successful; however, many churches report that they still struggle to communicate with their sister church due to language barriers, change in leadership, and the lack of technology in Guatemala.
Since it extremely difficult for the Guatemalans to secure a visa to visit us, PWNC churches have to put more effort into visiting them.  A visit to your community has powerful impact and is essential to maintaining and renewing covenants and relationships.
Delegation trips usually consists of 7 to 8 days (a typical itinerary):
Day 1: Travel from NC to Guatemala, spending the night in Antigua while assimilating into the Guatemala culture.
Day 2: Travel to the Seminary, which is a central location to our sister churches in Sur and Suchi Presbyteries
Day 3: Orientation, meetings, visit to a coffee plantation or other cultural site
Day 4: Travel to sister church community
Day 5: Visit with sister church
Day 6: Return to seminary and debriefing
Day 7: Return to Antigua
Day 8: Return to NC
In order to avoid travel during Guatemala's rainy season upcoming delegation trips are currently being scheduled for (based on interest):
October 26, 2016
November 9, 2016
March 29, 2017
end of October/early November (TBA) 2017.
Our partnership committee will offer a comprehensive orientation for all delegates prior to the trip and interpreter will be provided in Guatemala if needed.  The average cost of a delegation trip is $1,200-$1,300 per person and includes: airfare, lodging, all transportation while in Guatemala, and meals.  We suggest that your church offer to defray part of the cost of the trip at all possible. If there is interest in delegates from your congregation attending but trip funding is an issue, please let the church to church committee know. In certain cases, there might be some trip funds available through the PWNC partnership budget.
Please share this email with your church members and let us know if there is any interest for the 2016 PWNC Delegation trips scheduled for October and November.  We need to know the names of those interested no later than July 29, 2016.  Please call or email us with any questions.
In Christ,
