Weekly Announcements

March 29, 2020

Sunday, April 5 - Palm Sunday
Our Palm Sunday worship service will Livestream from the sanctuary beginning at 11:00 a.m. We are excited to welcome the Carolina Brass! They will share their beautiful musical gifts as we
participate in worship remotely.

Thursday, April 9 - Maundy Thursday
Our Maundy Thursday service will Livestream from the chapel beginning at 7:00 p.m. We encourage you to set aside a sacred space for worship in your home where you can participate in communion using common elements. With the Word proclaimed, and the words of institution spoken, we will commune together with the Lord’s Supper at the same time from our own homes. This service, and its parallels, remind us of Jesus’ last supper with the disciples.

Friday, April 10 - Good Friday
Our Good Friday Tenebrae Service will be broadcast on April 10, at 7:00 p.m. During this service, we will reflect on the ultimate sacrifice, made by Christ, for the forgiveness of our sins, and then we will wait in darkness for the resurrection of our Lord.

Sunday, April 12 - Easter Sunday
At 6:56 a.m., on Easter morning, watch for a sunrise video update from Dr. Cynthia M. Benz.
At 11:00 a.m., we will Livestream one service from the sanctuary, adorned with Easter lilies. We have asked other PCUSA pastors in Gaston County to assist in leading worship and invite their congregations to join us via Livestream. Join us as we celebrate the resurrection of Christ!

Easter Lily Honorariums and Memorials

In keeping with tradition, we will once again be adorning our sanctuary with Easter lilies. We look forward to their beauty whether we are present or not! If you would like to honor or memorialize someone with a lily, please send the information below to Trip Stewart (tstewart@fpcgastonia.org) by March 30.

In honor of or in memory ___________________ of Presented by_______________________

Each honorarium or memorial costs $15. Checks can be mailed to the church, made out to First Presbyterian Church with “Lilies” in the memo line. In lieu of a lily, honorariums and memorials can also be made benefiting One Great Hour of Sharing.

One Great Hour of Sharing

Throughout the season of Lent, a special offering will be collected for One Great Hour of Sharing. OGHS is the largest way that Presbyterians join together to share God’s love worldwide. Each gift helps to improve the lives of people in challenging situations through rebuilding efforts, sponsoring food security programs, and by partnering with communities to promote self-development.

Checks can sent by mail, made out to First Presbyterian Church with “OGHS” in the memo line, or gifts can be given online at www.fpcgastonia.org/giving or presbyterianmission.org/give-OGHS
Online Giving

In the midst of unusual times, Christ still calls us to give as we have received. Please consider continuing to give your pledges and offerings. Gifts may be received by mail at 1621 East Garrison Boulevard, Gastonia, N.C. 28054, or online at www.fpcgastonia.org/giving. We are grateful for your continued support of the mission and ministry of First Presbyterian Church!

Sunday Night Youth Group

Make sure to join in for our Zoom youth group meetings this Sunday! Let’s stay in community and continue to support one another! Follow the links to join the Zoom meetings.

Walk, Talk and Run for God

Please note, Walk, Talk, and Run for God has switched to an online format, but we still encourage you get out and exercise on your own! All Gaston County trails and greenways are still open for groups fewer than 50. Please contact Lisa Marisiddaiah at nurse@fpcgastonia.org for more information.

Lenten Lunch and Worship 2020

It is with regret that we announce the cancellation of all community Lenten Lunch and worship services for the remainder of the Lenten season. We will miss this time of fellowship, but feel this move is best for the safety of our church community. We look forward to next year’s Lenten series!
Children's Virtual Wednesday Night

Join us every Wednesday for Wednesday Night Alive on Zoom! We will gather at 6:00 p.m. to catch up, play games, read Bible Stories, and be reminded that we are still part of one body of Christ even though we’re at home. Follow the link to join in!

Blood Drive

The onsite blood drive planned for April 6, has been canceled. However, this is still a time when donations are desperately needed! If you feel called to donate blood, additional donation dates and locations can be found at https://www.oneblood.org/donate-now. Use your zip code to find a location near you.
Gastonia Area Presbyterians Habitat House

The Habitat for Humanity staff would like to thank everyone who has been working on the Habitat House in Belmont. Due to the coronavirus, volunteer builds with Habitat for Humanity have been temporarily suspended. Habitat staff will finish the remaining work on the house. They will keep us updated on the progress, so that a dedication might be planned in the near future.

Keep in Touch

Follow @fpcgastonia on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter to receive updates, prayers, and other news. Connecting on social media is also a great way to keep in touch with other church members, and stay engaged while we are not meeting in person.
FPC Youth Updates

FPC Youth, Parents, and friends are invited to follow @fpcyouthgastonia on Facebook and @fpcgastoniayouth on Instagram (note the slight name difference) to receive updates, photos and to stay connected with each other online.

A friendly reminder to be especially mindful that all doors have closed properly when entering the building, and are properly locked when exiting the building or concluding an event. To ensure your safety, and the safety of others, doors should never be propped open.  Please do not depart the building alone, especially at night.
