Weekly Announcements

January 26, 2020

This Sunday, January 26, we will celebrate Scout Sunday during a combined 11:00 a.m service. Immediately following will be a congregational meeting and lunch in the Fellowship Hall, hosted by our Cub Scout and Boy Scout Ministries.
Annual Meeting of the Congregation

A congregational meeting has been called immediately following the 11:00 a.m. worship service. The purpose of the meeting will be to receive the annual report from each ministry committee, elect corporate officers, adjust Rev. Lauren Sease Vanacore’s terms-of-call, and elect the Pastor Nominating Committee (PNC), who will search for our next installed Senior Minister. Please plan to be with us for this important meeting at this very exciting time in the life of First Presbyterian Church!
January Food Collection For CAM

Bring non-perishable food items and fill the baskets near church entrances to fill the shelves at CAM (Crisis Assistance Ministry) and the stomachs of the hungry in our community! Please place your donations in the receptacles at the Reception Desk, Fellowship Hall, and the Narthex.
Wednesday Night Lenten Series

Please mark the following dates on your calendar and prepare to participate in the Lenten Study series titled, “The Grace of Les Miserables,” written by Matt Rawle. We will have four very talented facilitators for each of the four weeks of the study. Come and reinvigorate your Christian faith! Advance knowledge of the literary work of “Les Miserables” is not required. We will study the parallels between the church and pop culture, around the themes of grace, and justice.

Wednesday, January 29 — Begin study “The Grace of Les Miserables”
Wednesday, February 12 - Second installment of study
Wednesday, February 26 — Ash Wednesday service in sanctuary
Wednesday, March 11 — Third installment of study
Wednesday, March 25 — Final installment and conclusion of study
Wednesday, April 8 — Stations of the Cross

Meal begins at 5:30 p.m. Activities for children K-5th grade are planned, as well as nursery care provided for children up to age four. Reservations are helpful but not required.
Souper Bowl of Caring

A special offering will be collected on February 2, for the Super Bowl of Caring. FPC youth can be found before and after both the 9:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. services collecting monetary donations. This offering serves to remind us that while we enjoy the Super Bowl football game, there are many within our community who go without a bowl of soup to eat. This year's offering will be divided equally between CAM and S.O.C.K.S.
Thrive Volunteers Needed

Volunteers to serve as monthly Captains for the refreshment table each Sunday at the Thrive service are needed. Responsibilities will be to set up and clean up. Refreshments have been simplified to coffee, juice, water, and doughnuts. As a Captain, you will secure volunteers to assist you. Please consider serving as we would like to continue providing refreshments in the new year.

Please see Page Carver, Karen Simmons, or Betty Burrell at the Thrive Service, or email Betty Burrell at iamgigi1961@gmail.com.

For our next outing, we will be traveling to attend the Stuart Cramer High School chorus’ singing supper at Catawba Heights Church near Belmont Abbey. We will leave the church promptly at 4:00 p.m. The program begins at 5:00 p.m., and we will return to the church at approximately 8:00 p.m. The music and food are both great. Our own Bethany Jennings is the Stuart Cramer chorus conductor and they are FABULOUS!

If you are interested in being added to the list of possible nursery caregivers, please contact Susannah Bryant sbryant@fpcgastonia.org and provide your contact information.
